This study of very early brain development in autism has the potential to provide important clues relevant to early detection of autism and discovering the early changes in the brain for young children with autism. The McGill Centre for Integrated Neuroscience coordinates four sites conducting multi-modal scans and highly technical behavioral assessments in a longitudinal study of infants which investigates this. The expertise in coordinating high quality data acquisition and management was developed through our groups experience in a comparable task in the NIHPD study of normal pediatric brain development. The MCIN’s DCC has developed the critical knowledge necessary to coordinate and oversee all aspects of the quality control, MRI and behavioral data collection, and management and dissemination of data in this study.
